The Downward Hand of God

I was trying to get some local culture.  This is actually the tomb marker for Col. Alexander Speers (01/11/1821 - 02/25/1870) in Brandon, Mississippi.  He was killed in the Great Train Disaster of 1870 near Oxford, MS.  The entire marker is an obelisk with a drape thrown over it (you can see the tassel in the image) and a wreath upon the top.  The hand of God holding the three chain links pokes out from beneath the drapery.  The rest of the marker is a woman lamenting near a broken column.  The downward hand of God symbolizes an unexpected sudden death; the three chain links, the holy Trinity; the drapery and the broken column, sadness; and the wreath, victory in death.
